My research interests are in metagenomics and organismal genomics. I also have interests in evolutionary and population genomics. During doctoral studies at the University of Oxford, I investigated the genetics of human susceptibility to tuberculosis and malaria.

I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Land, Crop and Food Sciences,University of Queensland, Australia, working on bioinformatics and metagenomics.

The research projects I am involved in are:

1.Identification and characterisation of repetitive elements in the ''Brassica'' A genome.

2.Comparative genomics of avirulence in the plant fungal pathogen, ''Leptosphaeria maculans'', in collaboration with Dr Jacqueline Batley (UQ).

3.Coral Black Band Disease metagenomics, in collaboration with Dr David Bourne (AIMS).

4.Bovine rumen metagenomics, in collaboration with Dr Justin Pachebat (Aberystwyth University).

5.ARC linkage project on next-generation metagenomics, in collaboration with Biomatters Ltd (NZ).

6.Bovine rumen and marsupial gut metagenomics, in collaboration with Prof Mark Morrison (CSIRO).

7.Genetic susceptibility to schizophrenia, in collaboration with Prof Bryan Mowry (QBI, UQ).

8.Genome of the coral, ''Acropora millepora'', in collaboration with AGRF, WEHI and JCU.

I am also interested in:

*Identification and characterisation of repetitive elements in genomes

*Phylogeny and evolution of transposable elements in the Brassicaceae

*Coral metagenomics

*Canola-associated soil metagenomics

*Host-pathogen co-evolution in tuberculosis

*The genomics of longevity in Teleosts
